that's an interesting thread.

When I read through it this morning I found some similarities with one of mine assumptions: themeing.

Many of GoogleGuy's posts over the last days point in that direction, especially when you look at his feedback to other posts. E.g.:
annej, I really wish every webmaster would do the log analysis that you just did. :)

Maybe Google after Dominic will focus less on main keywords / phrases, but more on semantic denotation. It can be done as BigDave pointed out in msg #19. Analyzing the semantic fields of pages (and sites) may bring up more relevant search results. - You might prefer to speak about topic fields instead of semantic fields (because english is not my first language I'm not sure if I used correct terms).

It's too early to prove a hypothesis like that, but there are some hints, anyway.
