d_fused... one key ingredient that I believe you left out (in addition to patience and style), is 'Attention.'

I believe that once Google 'sees' a new page from Freshbot, it will check back and see if there is anything new. If there is, it checks back often, and many times will keep the ranking up through-out the cycle.

I have several news sites that, if I keep the pages fresh with current information, they list them at the top and keep them there. If there is not much updated material (or I get lazy)... Google quickly begins to ignore that page in the SERPs.

This is not only what I have observed, but it also makes common sense. The more changes and 'fresh' material on your site, the more useful and current it should be for visitors.
