There really isn't a webcrawler any more. You just submit directly to Direct Hit and Excite, and HotBot uses Inktomi results. You can submit from their site, but the general consensus is that you need to pay to be included in Inktomi - their partners use their results, and there are many, although MSN and AOL are the most important.

For FAST submit at [alltheweb.com...] - very important, their results are used globally, and they update very quickly, too.

Another important factor is to make sure and be included in Open Directory Project [dmoz.org].
