The only thing you can do is keep checking it every day. Probably twice a day, immediately after the zone files are updated (Database last updated on 5-Jul-2000 20:51:56 EDT)

But remember that you will be using a whois server to check. There are people with access to the actual com zone file. They can check if a domain is off the zone file before others.

Because of the recent changes announced by NSI, services like mymonitor.com decided to shut down.

Actually NSI puts a domain on hold by removing it from the zone file while keeping it in the whois database. Services like MyMonitor.Com use this fact to get the list of 'on hold' domains'.
