It is a pity about it not being a soccer site. :) It would have been a great use of a .net domain. A 301 is a permanent redirect so it should be OK with Google. (It might be best to ask in the SEO forum here but 301s are the correct way to point domains and it helps search engines distinguish the primary brand website. If the same site appears on a com/net/org/etc combination without a redirect then it creates a duplicate content issue.
