My vote: Go with .com. Build the site out. Once it's established "as proof it's no longer bad" try to undo any existing banning/filtering.

I agree with Webwork on the above.

Systems that don't correct their shortcomings, flaws, errors, etc. tend to eventually fail.

Yeah ... eventually ... but in the meantime we need to figure out workable ways to move forward with our own goals.
