My vote: Go with .com. Build the site out. Once it's established "as proof it's no longer bad" try to undo any existing banning/filtering.
Then form a union of wrongfully banned/filtered sites and get as much mileage as you can out of that collateral promotion. ;)
I lean towards "walking around" (Dissing? Ignoring? Not kowtowing to") systems that don't work, can't find the time or resources to correct a wrong, etc. Systems that don't correct their shortcomings, flaws, errors, etc. tend to eventually fail.
Why should I bend to the faults of a flawed system? Frack 'em if I can still pay the bills without 'em. Do the right thing and form a chorus that sings loudly about how SystemX if unfair, flawed, wrong, mean, unkind, . . . If you make a fair point, without coming across as whiney, whinging, a victim, you might just get the giant beast to bend for you instead of you bending for it.
