Moniker's reputation amongst domainers was damaged and Snapnames also had a few problems. The big problem for these players is that the market has changed rapidly in the last few years. The end of Domain Tasting and registrars forming their own expired domain auction operations really hit Snapnames. It was innovative but it kind of lost that along the way. However the real killer for expired domain auction operations is Godaddy. Its market share gives it a major lock-in. People generally think of Godaddy as a domain registrar but what they miss is that it probably has the largest PPC lander operation in the gTLDs (the Godaddy 'coming soon' page) and an expired auction system that can depend on the biggest registrar in the world. It is like the relationship that existed between Snapnames and Network Solutions in the early days of domain auctions.
