Older/Matured folks may think less in terms of "hot-ness" (implicit / explicit sexuality based values) and more in terms of "someone whom I find enjoyable/funny/engaging/intelligent/honest/fun/faithful/valued/etc . . . companion, someone to accompany one's self through life's little adventures (or the absense thereof).

The very old may not think much at all and would therefore, and all the more, find value in, or need for, "a companion".
