It's not against any rules. It isn't considered duplicate content. One day the search engines will figure out this mess of "canonical" URLs and get it all straight. Until then you can use Mod_Rewrite in a .htaccess file to redirect non-www prefixed URLs to a www prefix if you want (or eliminate the www -- your choice). Or you could just leave it "as is".
