We have a registration application system which is hosted on a local web hosting company. Accessing to the application requires internet connection. Such makes our event registration heavily depends on availability of internet, where sometimes we have connection issues such as weak wifi signal esp if an event hosted in halls surrounding with huge buildings. Thus registering about 1000 participants in 2 - 3 hours become a hectic work, delayed and the queue stands long for 30 minutes or more.
one possible is to host the application in an intranet LAN , where 20 - 25 laptops will be connected to a http server ( apache server , xammp ) via wifi router.
1. if anyone have done this kind of support, kindly do share your experiences
2. will win 7 suitable to host the xampp ? is there any connection limitation to http server which runs on win 7 ?
3. what type router suits best ? any additional setting required other than fixing IP on each laptop ?
4. can we have a domain name just for this LAN ?
