One of the most successful businesses in the nyc area the past few years has been an Internet grocery company. Huge operation with 2, 3 sometimes 4 trailer trucks making deliveries in same neighborhood.
But that's probably because of specific demos, not just "fairly high income," but also "I just don't have the danged time," because I'm either a "1st or 2nd year mba or lawyer and I work 16 hours a day," or "stay at home mom or dad who doesn't want to hassle with the stroller in the market."
I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon doesn't have its eyes on it and other successful regionals already.
