Yeah, but the people waiting on checks would never go for that. And those are the type of people that are at the top of the priority list right now. Look at the stink over just eliminating Sat delivery. A lot of the people complaining about that probably don't even need it, but they just want it for the sake of wanting it. A good portion of the public just simply wants to lash out at anything they perceive as being part of 'the establishment'. If the government (or anything perceived as such) wants to do something that appears negative towards the public, they will want to be opposed to it. Whether it makes sense or not.
Stamps should probably be twice what they are, but the public won't allow that. All of this is fueled by the old heads complaining to congress. Also, like always, the media has manipulated the situation. Each story I've seen done, they've showed more people complaining about it than being OK with it... Thereby trying to create the illusion that it's the majority that thinks that.
