I think it will definitely affect all sorts of businesses, large and small. We got hit recently by Kelora for faceted navigation. Their patent is currently invalidated but I'm sure they will appeal or fight it some other way.

They send threat letters specifically to small businesses as well to intimidate and hope they will pay up the licensing fees instead of spending money on attorneys to fight them.
