If a well know company, generates clone websites (with some level of customization), to sell retail goods.

Would you choose a subdomain like

mycompany.well-known-brand-name.com

or

mycompany.com

to market this product. Assume you are not worried about organic results and are going to target PPC.

Which domain would you choose and why?

I figure that it is better to use the subdomain.well-known-brand.com, as you automatically has the brand recognition, and this would far outweigh the few people that actually looks at the URL; and figure out you are just an affiliate.
