Why? Simple - because there are two types of visitors to an e-commerce site: those who came there looking to buy something, and those who just came there looking and might not even know how they got there in the first place.
That was what I was thinking. I get a lot of tire kickers. Quite a few people come to the site and do not click to add a product to the cart. When a customer does, I convert at 50% to a sale. I assume that the others are comparing shipping and do not purchase. Less than 1% of visitors add anything to the cart.
I think I'm going to give it a try and see what happens.
