Google have scaled down Google Checkout after spending reputedly $100 million without making a dent in the market.
They have shut down operations in Europe and now seem to be simply keeping up appearances with a scaled down operation which is no longer being actively promoted.
If you have the option pick an e-Commerce solution which allows you to combine multiple payment services such as ShopFactory, so if you want you can have PayPal and Google Checkout in the mix - but Google Checkout isn't really worth it. Anyone who has an account with them will also have other means of paying. Google tried to take on PayPal with a badly planned solution and lost. Apart from being given away free of charge for a while it never had much going for it.
Nevertheless the more popular payment methods you can combine, the more sales you will have; research on that is pretty clear.
