It does not sound like your boss would dole out even if the site were wildly successful, or this would be your inspiration to work on the site. If you enjoy webwork then try building your own ecommerce store. If not, I would ask the boss to agree on some sort of commission on all sales before you make site take off if you can, especially if you don't think he will share the rewards. Otherwise, you may be sitting there when the sales start rolling in at your same pay rate watching your boss become a big wig.
