Working for a small company has its perks! The boss doesn't really complain if I'm late so I basically make my own hours. But now I'm a webmaster? Here's the deal though. My job still pays me the same and even if the site fails. And why should I even care! This has been the bane of my existance. Currently going back and forth with Yahoo with blog issues, and they still appear to have no idea what I'm inquiring about! (I would LOVE to post the emails here, can I do that?) I don't like my job anymore, and since the site does nothing but cost him money- I can't ask for a raise (rise to you UK peeps). How do others in my position find inspiration? Should I be under some kind of contract that offers me a percentage? That would make me try harder for sure, but how does one go about that process when you may be too busy cutting paper products?
I want to give as much info as possible here so skim over my fluff if you need to. There's some ranting but a question does exist.
My job is a mixed bag of computer and light manufacturing. A graphic designer who gets pulled off every now and again to cut business cards, or package something or print t-shirts. A jack of all trades- master of none.
In a nutshell, this is how my job has developed.
Boss wants product up on www,
Boss gets a friend to set up a Y store (so now I have to build a site using the Y store editor! oh what fun awaits me!)
Boss gets google adwords
I learn how to use the tools and build the site,
I also learn adwords and get great CTRs
Too much money being spent so adwords gets cut in half,
Traffic from google is also cut in half,
Conversions suck- always did, still do.
Is there anyone out there in my boat? As a store OWNER there's a whole lot to get all excited about and work towards. I have tried to make the site work but have run out of inspiration. There simply is nothing in it for me.
