Very well said. I am more and more convinced that on a well developed website the Home Page is nothing but an information backwater (and the "intake valve" for PageRank).

I have never seen the HomePage for many, many sites that I visit quite regularly. Might be fun one day to go and check them out, but I can certainly function quite well without it.
