If there is a group of "utility style" information that is not part of the core of the website, why not group it somewhere else on the page instead of part of the main menu.

Could you give an example or two of possible places you'd put these kinds of utility links? This problem has bugged me for a while now, but I haven't been able to think of a good solution.

This information architecture article is so sensible that it makes me want to redo a bunch of my sites.
