---- textarea in IE 8 erractic cursor behavior

I'm still working on getting it down to a demo size.

But I was wondering if it might be a known problem -hopefully with an easy "fix"- (although my googling has not led me to all that much yet).

The problem:
A page, all standards compliant and valid

- XP+IE8 has the problem
- Win7+IE9 does not trigger it (so far)
- all other browsers behave (of course)

The page is not triggering compatibility mode in IE8 (but the users could do that themselves)

- textarea with a LOT of text (see why it's hard to make a demo ?)
doesn't happen with just a little bit of text,
only does with a lot of text (pages worth in one go)
- page has scrollbars too

scroll the text in the textarea all the way to the bottom, now try to edit something. And the entire thing starts to jump around erratically.

Workaround I found so far:
- push the compatibility button of IE8: problem seems to go away

Anybody seen this before ? Any better workaround than trying to trigger compatibility mode ?

I've not tested it in IE7 or earlier yet (my IE7 upgraded itself)
