Has there been any new breakthroughs within the last several years on ways to diminish the significance of certain text phrases besides just lowering the font size ?

I've got a small amount of text dynamically created on every .html page now to let customers know of something new on the site... But I don't want it given any importance in search engines.

Maybe there's an HTML type tag that we could wrap around certain phrases to notify google not to worry about this text ?

something like that available yet ? If not, it should be.
