---- The <base> element and how to use it effectively

I'm loathe to use the full url for images and internal html pages for two reasons:

1) Code bloat.

2) My (NFP) domain name is also a key word phrase and if the SE count the markup in their keyword density I'd be bound to trip their filters.

So I use relative internal links and base href.

Watching my logs for the last few months, I've not noticed any bots get (any more) confused than they usually do since specifying the base href of each individual page.

It really does seem like it is time W3C revised their base href docs to clarify this issue.

PS. I don't use the "../../ method, I only use "/folder/page.htm method, so do you think I'm ok?
