Page is a not externally linkable

<img src="images/banner.jpg" width="634" height="91" /> then i renamed the exact same page to test.php and it dont work any more. goto view cde in IE6 and it give a blank page. that line is the only line of code on the page, what gives?
ive just tried a totally blank page with this code in it and named it test.html and opened it and works fine.
