I know this is a broad question, and I also know I'm not going to get specific sites for an answer, but I'm still curious.

I hear about everyone making money by setting up sites and then earning a cut of the profits- I get the concept behind it- but what does a decent site that does this actually look like?

the only things (that I can remember running into) are:

1) reviews of a product, and it links to the site where the product is sold with a ref url

2) just random ads on a site (ie amazon ads) that are almost like banners, etc- I can't imagine this performs well at all

have I just completely missed over the traditional affiliate sites?

where would you suggest looking to just see some sample ones?
