posts from about 2am to when we were off - sorry to say - are lost.
We moved pubcon.com to a new server last week. Webmasterworld will remain on this one. So I was cleaning up the server of left over bits and pieces. I did everything right by making a backup just before I made any major changes.
So I go into cpanel to clean up remaining stray ftp accounts and click "delete this user unix ftp account and home directory files?". Sure I say - I don't want stray files laying around after I am done. Turns out, that the ftp users home directory was somehow set to the doc root of the server. So not only did it delete the entire set of websites, it deleted my freshly made backup tar ball as well.
Then they get into backups and find cpanel has been throwing an error on nightly backups for two weeks because I'd moved Pubcon out and forgot to tell cpanel - and the nightly zips are probably glitched. So they are walking back through backups to find the last good one to restore. Then I get to do an upload of about 400k files to bring the system backup to about last monday. this while I am on the road at high level meetings.
Finally LW was able to restore last nights backup. Thanks LW.
