Thanks for the applause Rumbas. I just reread the European SEO Strategy Primer post that you linked to and was surprised to see how much of it is still up to date, particularly in part 1. The technical development has made som advise obsolete of course, but less than I had expected. Part 2 needs to be updated with the success of Google, but gives a pretty good picture otherwise.
seems 70% penetration for US is a bit too much
The US and Scandinavia had around 60% back in 2001, so 70% today is probably about right. It is usually defined as access the the Internet either from home or from work, but doesn't take into account the frequency of use.
