In due course, as the WWW becomes increasingly saturated with competitors, as Google increasingly claims the visual space of its sites for its own profits, and as traffic sources become increasingly atomized, it's likely that savvy folks will be building a flow of traffic that arrives in dribbles from thousands sources - one of which might be DMOZ.

Traffic from a thousand sources, just like the bad old days, before the fast easy money of the SEO days.

YMMV, but I'd suggest keeping it simple when it comes to DMOZ. If you can get a link get one. Just submit and walk away. Consider it one of a thousand link requests.

If you can't get a listing or one doesn't come easy then move on to your next target. Just walk away and retarget your time and effort. Don't waste a minute whining elsewhere.

Get ALL the inbound traffic you can from all possible sources, no matter the volume, as it won't be getting any easier as time moves on to get the kind of reliable traffic needed to build a competitive business at a price affordable to the ordinary Joe or Jane.
