This is where I see the web going. If I have a question about my broken computer, I won't go to google and ask 'why doesn't my PC work' - I'll go to a computer portal/site/directory. If I want to know all about films, I won't go to google and ask 'latest releases' - I'll go to an <online movie database/directory> where I know the results are simply superior in every way possible. So as starting points, search engines are great, but for accuracy and speed, 100% specialist directories are worth their weight in Gold. [edited by: Webwork at 8:27 pm (utc) on Aug. 9, 2007]
These are both important for ultimately finding what we want. In the red corner, we have the all dancing, multi-talented search maestro -- the search engine! In the blue corner, we have the highly targeted, niche filled prospector -- Mr Directory. They both need each other, perhaps the directory needs the search engine more, but once established, a helpful directory really comes into it's own.
