---- Is the DMOZ Server Repair Delay Undermining the ODP's or AOL's Reputation?

As a directory DMOZ serves its purpose, however, I don't see Google trying to replicate their service. They would have done it years ago if they intended. My guess is that Google wanted to take the unbeaten path and utilize the DMOZ for a running start. No need to re-invent the wheel when there is a massive open source directory already made for you.

I do think the repair delay undermines both ODP's and AOL's reputations. If AOLscape drops ODP, I see Google attempting to pick up the pieces since they have been utilizing ODP data for so long. This action will tell us how important the ODP is to Google and subsequently us.
