In my view there are myriad versions or flavors of "directory based search" - human categorized, organized, en-titled/labeled subject matter search. It's within reason, given enough support, that ODP could out-search Google and be the better resource for all manner of search. Google holds sway. Yahoo holds sway. But both are advertising driven. Both are morphing into "media companies". Why? Perhaps because the future of search is in search's transformation - into what it inevitably IS to become: A multifacted, niche market driven, multiple approach, . . . all sorts of things thing. ;) So, I see lots of room for lots of players and models. And 1, 2 or 6 billion people to rummage around in the search bins.
What I find interesting is that people "tag" - they categorize. People "digg" - they vie for the best "title" for an issue and then people vote on competing titles. The organize. We search by keyword.
