Then we'll have to agree to disagree. How can viewing content on a three inch screen versus viewing it on a 23 inch screen be anything other than a diminished experience?
As an example, YouTube is a major net contributor. If I am viewing YouTube content on a mobile phone there is no way that it is "different". It is quite clearly diminished. Very much more website content is the same.
No one is going to tell me that a horizontal menu that stacks vertically on a mobile phone screen is anything other than a compromise and a diminished experience of that menu.
At one end (in television) they are driving us up beyond 42" screens and at the other they are drving us down to screen sizes that are barely readable. And, as you say, everything is getting dumbed down too.
