If it's local to wordpress.com then no, it won't impact adsense in any noticeable way. I doubt many will even switch since Google packages their affiliate network in with adsense reports and has analytics etc.

If they plan on integrating this into wordpress downloads as an option from the dashboard I may very well break away from using wordpress altogether, my current wordpress site is highly modified anyway (core file changess, mostly to reduce the "generic" bloat and improve security/performance). I just don't want/need ads to become a core function, I implement those myself.

I wish the service well, I'm sure it will do well with many, but I think they've overestimated the significance of wordpress in general, surely enough to be calling a competitor "sad" and showing disrespect in general. We're watching.
