Alexa rank is only important if you're selling your site to a moron that think it's important.

The rank is created from people dumb enough to use the Alexa toolbar. A tech site with 100,000 visitors daily could have an abysmal Alexa rank because their visitors aren't stupid enough to have the toolbar installed. It doesn't mean anything, and as said before, it can be easily manipulated.
