It seems to work on game related progress in sport, yet most of the crowd who might have a dying need to know what's going on over there, simply haven't adopted it. I think that part of the problem is the lack of firepower in the promotional area of it's benefits.
Twitter really needs to spell out to the masses, why it is useful. Maybe it's beyond their budget to do so.
