Lots of sites already include a static follow link to their Twitter profile page. The main advantage of this button, it seems, is to dynamically display one's follower count and avoid navigating away from the host site.

I worry a bit about Twitter's continued spotty record with tech failures. Scalability issues seem to plague them, and keeping a static link vs. depending on fast script delivery from Twitter seems preferable.
