Here's a few stats:
In the last few days I've been doing some groundwork for a site that isn't launched yet. My testing budget is three dollars per day.
As I type this I've spent $40.04 and gained 82 new likes from the ads. The first few likes cost about a dollar each, but the effective cost has been getting cheaper as I've been coming up with better ads.
The ads provide no reason to click unless people are interested in the exact topic that the site will be about.
There were also three new likes where the source was someone's profile, not the ad. Those are a bonus.
I haven't yet created a custom welcome page. So far the ads are just landing people on the Wall page, and there's no special offer of any kind. So there's lots of room for experiment there, too.
I figure that if I can't create a cost-effective sales funnel by buying ads on FB, spending a lot of time on "free" methods won't be a very good investment either.
