I'm trying very much not to fossilize, and so am looking at Facebook with an eye for ideas on how to use it to not just bring visitors to my site, but to bring visitors who will be likely to buy.

With the SE's, people are actively looking for places to buy things. On Facebook, most of it seems to be social interaction, with some interest in commercial sites.

Keeping up on Facebook would seem to require creating content almost daily and replying (if you're lucky enough to get people commenting and interacting).

I'm sure there are sites that do well promoting themselves on Facebook. How they do it is another question.
