These video interviews with Justin Timberlake (by John Stewart, Daily Show) and Aaron Sorkin (by Steven Colbert, The Colbert Report) are informative for me, as well as really funny [mashable.com...]
First, neither the movie star nor the writer really uses or likes Facebook. So the movie is a piece of entertainment and it's not all that sympathetic to the subject matter. Aaron Sorkin, the writer (American President, A Few Good Men, West Wing) is a master of clever dialog and that makes the movie a lot of fun.
In his interview about the movie, he had this to say:
"Socializing on the Internet" is to socializing as "Reality TV" is to reality
Pretty insightful comment, I thought - especially coming from a non-user. But after all, who doesn't want to see the world's youngest billionaire as a total jerk. Knocking people donw from the heights is the great American pastime.
That said, I've noticed that my usually quiet personal Facebook account has been seeing some life this weekend, even though I do nothing to feed it and everything to move contacts into "real" email. So it's possible this movie is going to help Facebook grow even more. Could be good for fan pages and business marketing.
