Just another option...

Open IE, go to tools and then connections, open the LAN settings and force the browser to resolve to 0.0.0.0.(which won't resolve) Close it and forget it, browse on with Firefox or any other browser of choice and let malicious attacks via IE crash and burn. You can't uninstall IE but you can disable it and use other browsers.

You'll want to set your windows updates to manual as well but this effectively blocks the majority of attacks on any computer since IE is the default entrance for such "behind the scenes" actions.

Since updates are always playing catch-up to malicious problems it's better to simply lock the door and apply updates manually imo.
