Create your own ad network and fill it with relevant products which offer quality and value; and above all be discerning. Dot these around the site without overwhelming the content and users would have the best of both worlds. Sprinkle in a few validated independents for good measure.

We all buy stuff but it's the relentless onslaught of crud which taints a good site.
