I'm one of those folks and I don't know what to do. I have the old Pentium D board (which was the first dual core). I always upgrade in two parts: hard drives/ video card then motherboard/processor.
From my research I found that windows licensing is tied to motherboard. Well, my motherboard upgrade schedule is due around summer/fall (trying to get my money worth out of the 8g of ddr2 ram I bought 3 months ago). So buying win7 will be a total waste for 4 months use, just to have to buy it again.
I'm so pi***ed. I'd love to go ubuntu, but I have $2000+ worth of software I use everyday that requires windows.
Even the pro upgrade is way expensive, and I'm not even sure I could get that work. I have a true, purchased, non-upgrade, non-oem copy of XP, but I can't register that one anymore when I install it, and MS just says it's invalid when I call. That's why I tried win 7 in the first place.
I am so hosed...
