We have tried employees working from home for various reasons, but have never found them as productive as they are in the office.
We found our projects got done 10%-20% quicker when done in the office than at home.
Now that could be associated with management and how each position is overseen, so I won't say its the same for everyone.
I have actually heard many stories where it works well.
But each company is unique and have to determine for themselves.
I give kudos to Yahoo for pulling the plug on something not working for them, instead of trying to "deal" with it.
