Yahoo Shares Up 6pct [marketwatch.com] On Talk Of New Microsoft Bid

Shares of Yahoo Inc. jumped 6% after a news report said Microsoft Corp. has approached other media companies about a potential joint bid for the Web portal. Microsoft has held talks with Time Warner, News Corp. and other firms about an arrangement in which Microsoft would buy Yahoo's search business, with the other firm buying what's left of Yahoo, according to Wednesday's Wall Street Journal. But the concept was swiftly dismissed as a long shot by some analysts.
