This is Microsoft's first PC hardware product so I'd cut them a bit of slack. They learned their lesson on the pricing. When the Surface was first announced, before pricing was known, a lot of people were interested in a signature Microsoft device. The initial price-point killed the Surface.
Then, they should have released the Surface Pro first, not the Surface RT. The RT is just not what initial adopters were expecting. The Surface RT is a radical shift and people didn't understand it wasn't the Windows machine they thought it would be.
