I don't think that's physically or mathematically possible.

The key word is, no *extra* weight or thickness.

I think we can agree that if the kickstand bulged out, or was an extra piece hanging off the back cover, that would be *extra* weight and thickness. But there's no bulge, and nothing extra is attached to the case. Smart design utilizing the lower half of the back cover.
