On the video editing question there are several good ones out there. I would suggest using one that is popular and not one that is new. There are many fine YouTube tutorials on how to do this or that, but choosing a platform that isn't used as much and you won't find as much information. Sure beats reading text after text. Actual hands on learning works best for me.

I chose Sony Vegas Pro. Can't really compare to others except for Pinnacle that used to crash often. Vegas works for me. Some drawbacks include losing windows under the task bar, but depends on how you use the program. I'm still new to it and find working with more than two enlarged windows at a time can be troublesome without "docking" and undocking. I suppose a very wide monitor could help.
