Page is a not externally linkable

I have an ecommerce site that has about 20 pages indexed and want to create more new content and try to target some long tail keywords. My concern is about link juice and adding new pages that may dilute my link juice especially those of the more important pages that are now ranked well. Would this affect the current pages and cause them to drop in rank if their link juice is diluted?
What are the standards on linking from new pages internally and how best should I do this? Of course I am hoping with the new content, people may link to me but I really don't know if anyone would even read it. I am now scared to add new content as I am afraid it will affect my the other pages.
I have seen my competitors using blogs to add in content and honestly most are dead. I am not sure if I should use a blog or a content section format. What do you think?
I am not really understanding how link juice works. Would it be better for me to have less pages and have those pages rank high and build more links to the site to eleviate them? Or would it be better to create more content and aim for long tail keywords. However will need to share link juice and may dilute stronger pages? Please advise.
Sorry I may be asking something silly but bear with me as I am a little clueless.
