A bloody good infographic is also worth trying out a couple times...I've linked competitor ones in my niche just because it's awesome.

As for getting guest blog spots, Wheel is right (as always)...networking is the key to the best links. Hit them up on Twitter, RT their stuff all the time, comment nicely and in crazy depth on their blog, stumble their stuff, submit something of theirs to reddit or whatever.
